Veilige reis gewenst en veel plezier.

Mooi om te zien hoe goed je de 230 bijhoudt. Het is echt een plaatje! Geniet van je vakantie, ben benieuwd hoe het je vergaat zo n lange trip. Heb het zelf nog niet aangedurfd, slaat nergens op want gebruik m dagelijks zonder noemenswaardige problemen. Ben benieuwd naar je verhaal. Groeten Guido

Nu een week lekker in Oostenrijk. De heenreis ging probleemloos. Hij houdt de temperatuur, ook in Italië mooi op 87. Voor de rest ook geen echte problemen gehad. Gisteren teruggekomen uit Italië. Nu weer lekker in Tirol.
Het is in de bergen even wennen met deze auto, maar dat heb je snel door. Veel in zijn tweede versnelling omhoog. Het enige probleem dat ik tot nu toe heb gehad is oververhitte remmen. Ben twee keer met rokende voorwielen en stankwalmen beneden gekomen. Gelukkig alleen dat en geen verlies van remkracht of kokende remolie. Was elke keer net voor het eind van de pas dat het begon, dus maar doorgereden en dan beneden even een stuk om rijden om te koelen. Als het midden op de berg was geweest, was ik gestopt. Het zijn natuurlijk standaard schijven(niet luchtgekoeld) en met de relatief dichte stalen velgen koelt het niet erg goed. Ik probeer alles op de motor af te remmen, wat vandaag heel goed ging op de Schlegeispas, maar je hoeft maar één iemand voor je te hebben die constant remt op op precies 40km te blijven en dan moet je wel mee.... Normalerwijs rem ik alleen net voor de haarspeld even hard en voor de rest niet, dat gaat prima. Als het echt stijl is lekker in zijn eerste versnelling naar beneden en schijt aan de mensen achter je . Het zijn vooral die mensen voor je die rijden alsof ze nog nooit een berg gezien hebben. Met deze auto's deed men dit vroeger natuurlijk ook. Je moet alleen even wennen. Allemaal wat minder verfijnd dan een nieuwe C-klasse.

Voor MB280E. De bandjes doen het erg goed. Rijden erg prettig en comfortabel.

Heb je remvloeistof vervangen Max?

Anders volgende x DOT5 erin (heb ik ook in de motorfiets ivm circuit).

Ja is vervangen. Remvloeistof is niet aan de kook gegaan, dus ik zie eigenlijk geen reden om het te vervangen voor iets wat er eigenlijk niet inhoort. Daarnaast kan ik het hier toch niet vervangen .

Zo zie je maar dat het fantastische auto's zijn, na 40 jaar feitelijk nog probleemloos door de bergen. Verhitte remmen kun je ook met het moderne spul nog wel krijgen, denk dat je daar niet heel veel aan doen kunt:-( fijne vakantie nog even, geniet!

Tja dat van die remmen kan je inderdaad met elke wagen hebben. Heb het ook al gehad met mijn 560SL tijdens een vlot ritje in de Belgische Ardennen. Toen stonden de banden ook te warm en begonnen hun grip te verliezen. (Conti sportcontact2, zeer goed bandje).
We moeten eerlijk zijn, de W123 is af fabriek uitgerust met zeer performante remmen. Dit kan je verbeteren door geventileerde schuiven van een W116 of W126 eerste generatie te monteren. Nu weet ik niet of je dichte velgen dan nog passen. Remklauw is iets dikker.
Indien je remmen van de W126 2de generatie wilt monteren dan ben je verplicht om over te stappen naar 15” en dat zou zonde zijn.

De W123 is inderdaad geleverd met zeer goede remmen. 40 jaar geleden reed men er ook mee in de bergen, dus dat moet nu ook prima kunnen. Ik kom er steeds meer achter. Het is alleen dat in het huidige verkeer alles sneller moet, en gaat in de bergen met een oude auto simpelweg niet. Dan maar kwaaie koppen . Ik ga niks aanpassen aan de remmen alleen omdat ik een keer op vakantie naar Oostenrijk wil. Originaliteit staat bij mij bovenaan. Ik pas me aan aan de mogelijkheden van de auto en dat werkt prima. Het is een leerproces.

Ziet er al met al prima uit, nog een wat dikkere olie, b.v 20W50 mineraal, erin gedaan voor deze reis??

Gewoon 15W40. Mijn vader zegt dat andere oliën geen zin hebben of zelfs een omgekeerd effect hebben. De motor is gemaakt voor 15W40, dus dat gaat er ook in, is zijn mening. Zelf weet ik het niet, maar gezien zijn ervaring geloof ik dat. Daarnaast heb ik hiermee nooit problemen gehad en dit is niet de eerste grote reis.

Er is weer een wijziging in de plannen!

Eergisteren bij Dortmund een W202 C180 gekocht(of eigenlijk moet ik zeggen gestolen met wat ik ervoor betaald heb) met origineel 45 dzd km en 0% roest. Ik heb de C gekocht als winterauto/lange vakanties(aircootje) auto en omdat ik de W123 niet meer als echte daily driver wil gebruiken. De 230 ga ik na de winter en het herstellen van de roestplek op de paravan en het vervangen van het linker spatbord in de verkoop doen om plaats te maken voor een 280E. Zo hoef ik de auto niet weer lange tijd stil te zetten, wat alleen maar zonde is.

Hier wat fotootjes! Leuke uitoering met eigenlijk alles erop. Alleen geen automaat. Nu nog een anti-roestbehandeling en mooi karren. Ik zit te denken om de wielkuipranden net als bij de W123 af fabriek met kit in te spuiten en dan dit weer zilver te schilderen.

netjes en wat rijdt een 202 lekker he? Misschien als ik eens met mijn verstand ga kiezen koop ik een 202 (combi) als daily en verkoop ik de 220 (welke overigens nog beter rijdt als een 202 )

Ja in vergelijking met de W123 een wereld van verschil, maar toch wel karakteristiek. Zeker dat M111 blok. Ik blijf gek van de W123, dus die zal ik ook altijd verkiezen boven elke andere auto, maar de 202 is de perfecte daily driver. Een W220 vind ik persoonlijk niks, maar het rijdt absoluut fantastisch! Als je een 202 wilt, is het nu wel een goede tijd. Goedkoper gaan ze niet worden en het aanbod is momenteel massaal.

Klinkt en ziet eruit als een goede koop. Ik begreep dat de eerste jaren beter zijn betreft roestgevoeligheid dan de latere jaren (na '97 / '98 ? ) ?
Zit er ook wel eens aan te denken ernaast als 'pekelbakkie' ; comfort vind ik belangrijk, en dat is tegenwoordig lastig te vinden in de compacte sedan klasse.

Ze zijn allemaal roestgevoelig, vanwege de slechte lak en de bezuinigingen op kit. Misschien dat de allereerste nog net de oude lak hebben, maar de eerdere jaren hebben wel weer problemen met de automaatbak en ik vind ze persoonlijk minder mooi. Een 202 is qua comfort natuurlijk perfect en de sedans zijn op het moment erg voordelig. Als je er een beetje om denkt en de auto regelmatig schoonmaakt en steenslag meteen bijwerkt denk ik dat het wel lang aankan. Ik ga wel wat antiroestbehandelingen uitvoeren.

Hoi Max, Goede keuze, ik heb de W202 ook altijd mooi gevonden.

Ik heb er laatst ook een gekocht, een hele vroege, volgens mij zelfs een voorseriemodel.
Ik denk dat hij op beurzen of in de showroom heeft gestaan, hij was van 1993 maar stond voor 1994 op kenteken.

Laatst toch weer verkocht want die maar doorlopende houderschapsbelasting krijg ik het altijd van op de zenuwen...

Ik ben van plan hem het grootste deel van het jaar toch te schorsen, maar inderdaad. Die van jou had wel een gave kleur.

De w202 vind ik persoonlijk de meest saaie auto die Mercedes ooit bedacht heeft. Eigenlijk heel de range 90-er jaren modellen. Hoewel ik zelf de W210 rijd, is het model er van lomp en niet mooi. De W124 was het laatste model, pas met de w203 en w211 kwam er weer wat smoel in.

Je rijdt zowel met de W210 als de w202 een dijk van een auto, heel veel auto voor heel weinig geld.
